What is Mathematics?

When studying Mathematics you may study pure mathematics which may cover areas such as analysis, algebra and geometry or applied mathematics which includes areas like statistics, theoretical Physics and financial Mathematics. All Mathematics courses will include a very strong emphasis on proof, rigour, clarity and accuracy and you will encounter new conceptual ideas. For those who are mathematically minded, studying Mathematics at University is very stimulating and exciting.

What can I do with an Mathematics degree?

The range of careers available to Mathematicians is very broad. Some continue with further research into Mathematics, whilst others pursue careers in actuarial services, accountancy, data analysis or systems development and finance.

What might I need to study Mathematics?

In order to study Maths at University you need to have studied Maths and for some courses, Further Maths at well. A growing number of universities now require candidates to sit and entrance test such as the STEP or MAT.
