Medicine

Medicine is the professional pathway to becoming a doctor and you will be studying a discipline that changes on daily basis with many areas where we still have a lot to learn. Traditional courses are split into pre-clinical and clinical training which gives you the opportunity to study the science of medicine before heading onto the wards. More modern courses allow you study the science behind medicine concurrently with your clinical studies. This is more of a system-based approach with more patient contact in the early years.

Medicine is a vocational course with vast majority of graduates going on to work as doctors. Some people also go onto pursue medical research.

Medicine is a highly competitive course and most universities will require you to have studied Chemistry, Biology and a third science subject e.g. Maths or Physics.
