What is Biology?
Biological Sciences encompass a broad area of specialist subjects linked to the study of living organisms and the science behind ‘life’. Biologists study the structure, function, growth, origin, evolution and distribution of living organisms. There are generally considered to be at least nine "umbrella" fields of biology, including biochemistry, botany, cellular biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, genetics, molecular biology, physiology and zoology.
At Cambridge, to study Biology you would apply for the Natural Sciences course which combines multiple science disciplines.
What can I do with an Biology degree?
Biology can be useful in many different careers including jobs within environmental sciences, medicine and nursing, and science and research. Many students also go into a broad range of careers including teaching, product development, investment banking and management consultancy.
What might I need to study Biology?
You will need to have studied A Level Biology and often at least one additional Science subject or Maths.
